Special Note About Rainfall

Our current analysis suggests that observations of rainfall are not needed to maintain the accuracy of the forecasting models. At the risk of oversimplification, one could say the models are tuned to address the average rainfall conditions of both spring and winter wheat regions. However, the model predictions may become uncertain when an area is experiencing prolonged periods of drought or above normal rainfall. If your location has been either unusually wet or dry, we advise that you carefully evaluate weather conditions, and follow the advice of your state extension specialist or other advisors.
